| Muktijuddho o Bangabandhu |
|
It has been four decades since Bengalis rose up under the charismatic leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and liberated the beloved motherland from the tyranny of Pakistani rule. The liberation war resulted in the death of millions of freedom loving Bengalis, but the end result was a liberated and free Bangladesh. This vision for the struggle for the freedom of Bengalis was envisioned by Bangabondhu and was supported by the vast majority of Bengali people.
In forty years, an independent Bangladesh has come a long way. Four decades on, Bangabandhu has remained in the hearts and minds of Bengalis, as had the spirit of the liberation of Bangladesh. With the intention of paying respect to the great leader, and the liberation struggle, Gallery Jolrong, has organised an exhibition ‘Muktijudho o Bangabandhu’, which started from 19 May, ending on 10 June.
In this glorious struggle for freedom and independence, art has played a significant part. Art has depicted the sufferings of the masses at the hands of the Pakistani oppressors. After 1971, people have felt the spirit of independence depicted on the works of the artists and felt the sacrifice and the sufferings of that time, and the great joy it came when this sacrifice proved fruitful and brought them victory over the tyrants. |
